Using your new skills

Want to put your new skills to some use but not sure how?

There are so many ways that you can use your new skills to help you become more active and involved in your local community. Here are just a few suggestions:

Volunteering

Volunteering is something that everyone can do and there are many Groups and Organisations in Thurrock that can use extra help. Whatever your interests, whether you have a lot of time or little, the Volunteer Centre can help you find out what you want to do and point you in the right direction of suitable Organisations and opportunities. Volunteering is a great way of making friends, gaining a skill, improving your CV and helping others. Click here for more information

Community Forums

There are 20 Community Forums covering the whole of Thurrock.  They are area based voluntary, non political groups, run by local people for local people. A Forum brings together people living and working in an area and gives them opportunity to have their say about issues that affect them and encourage community involvement.  To support this work, each Forum receives funds from Thurrock Council and by getting involved, you can help decide how this money is used for the benefit of your community and local Groups. Membership of the Forums is open to individuals, Voluntary/Community and Faith groups, Local Business and Schools. Click here for more information

Being an Active Citizen and taking part in opportunities

Have you ever considered joining a Management Committee/becoming a Trustee/School Governor or even a PTA member—effective community action needs people to take a lead role.  For those of you who cannot make a regular commitment, why not look out for one off events such as clean up days, local fêtes etc. There are lots of opportunities to brush up your skills or learn new ones to help you take on these roles through our ACE training programmes. Click here for more information.
